DORSET EX-WOOLWORTHS SHOP REOPENS USING FUTURA'S RETAIL SYSTEM
Wednesday, June 17, 2009
One of 815 closed Woolworth's stores is reopening under the new name Wellworths in Dorchester and the team chose Futura's retail management system as it was so fast to set up it could meet their tight re-opening timescales. Claire Robertson, the former manager of the Dorset branch, gained the financial backing of a consortium led by the Ireland-based owner of the premises to reopen the store.
The store has pick 'n' mix but has abandoned CDs, DVDs and children's clothing. Instead it has new lines including a craft and pet section with a stronger focus on products by local firms, including one which makes wooden
toys. Retail Consultant Gerard O'Connor has recommended Futura's
affordable retail software and stock control solution for its comprehensive management and control of all retail operations in a single, integrated, system and especially for its strength in handling recommended reordering and replenishment. Gerard also specified pearl white Aures Odysee base units with indigo blue clip for a more powerful and durable system and due to their three year warranty period.
Gerard O'Connor said: "Wellworths chose Futura for its Dorchester store because the solution was competitively priced and because I had confidence in the people that I was talking to as they have such a clear understanding of the Futura system. Futura were able to load the item records electronically and I believed that they could get the system setup in the short timescale that we had to open."
Futura is hopeful that likeminded retailers considering ex-Woolworths stores will see how quickly Futura has been installed and is used by the staff.
Claire Robertson concluded: "Dorchester was always a profitable store. The sales were always good even though Woolworths as a company wasn't profitable. "It is a prime location and really left a hole in the high street. Plus there isn't a lot of competition for a general retailer here."
